While watching the Oct. 24 "Main Street Debate" on KUTV between U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch and his opponent Pete Ashdown, I was once again amazed at Hatch's arrogance and self-righteous demeanor.
He seems to think that his is the only valid opinion and that others who disagree are incapable of realistic perception. In his response to numerous questions, his reply included the words, "and those that don't see it that way..." He said that "those who didn't see it that way" were "living in a bubble," "unrealistic," etc. In other words, his is the only viable opinion, and any differing viewpoint isn't even worthy of consideration.
Is it me, or is this a horribly accurate example of the type of Washington arrogance that Orrin Hatch came to power to eliminate 30 years ago? His stance in his first race was that we needed fresh blood in Washington. I agree that someone is living in a bubble, but not those in Utah who disagree with Orrin Hatch. I suggest it is he, who has lived outside this state for 30 years, who needs his bubble burst, along with a well-deserved lesson in humility.
